The idea of establishing a medical college in Iraq was a significant step during the early years of the modern Iraqi state. Dr. Harry Sanderson played a crucial role in refining this idea and persuading King Faisal I of its importance. After deliberations and discussions, the king was convinced, and a royal decree was issued in 1926 to establish the college. Official studies commenced in 1927, marking the beginning of its academic journey. From that point forward, the college's scientific and academic mission took off and has continued uninterrupted to this day.
