The American Society of International Law was one of the organizations specializing in international law, but it is not a union in the traditional sense. It does not advocate for international law professionals or support them, nor does it defend their rights as is typical of other professional associations such as the American Bar Association or labor unions. Its purpose was clear: to provide the American public with a clear and simple understanding of international law and why states resort to its application through arbitration, which is conducted by international courts. In this research, we tried to investigate the beginnings of the idea of establishing the American Society of International Law, what international circumstances surrounded its establishment, how the appropriate opportunity came about for that establishment, who the personalities who contributed to it were, how many sessions it required, the internal system of the Society, its branch committees, its periodical publication, its first annual meeting, and what topics of discussion were raised in that meeting.
