The Arab-Greek conflict in the administration of the Orthodox Church in Jerusalem

This research discusses the Arab-Greek conflict in the administration of the Orthodox Church in Jerusalem during the Ottoman era (1517-1917). Internal conflicts arose between Arab Orthodox and Greeks within the Orthodox Church as a result of political and social changes. Most of the senior positions in the Orthodox Church were held by Greeks, leading to a feeling of marginalization among Arabs. With the rise of nationalism in the 19th century, there was a strong desire among Arabs to strengthen their role within the Church. Consequently, the Orthodox Church witnessed significant conflicts, as Arabs demanded representation on administrative councils. Arab demonstrations against Greek dominance occurred, resulting in violent tensions and clashes. The research reached a number of conclusions, as these conflicts contributed to strengthening national identity and Arab nationalism, which led to the formation of more organized nationalist movements in the region.
